A Chemical Element Sustainability Index

چکیده

As product development becomes increasingly complex, the demand for earth's mineral ores increases and with it, challenge to achieve global “sustainability”. Chemical elements are building blocks of natural resources which sourced from across planet manufacture globally traded goods. While technological, social economic progress accelerates, evaluating sustainability these remains a challenge. Numerous methodologies evaluate exist but most rely on high levels data collection. In this paper, methodology is presented within multi-criteria decision analysis composite indicator framework aim rapidly comprehensively estimating chemical element . The based triple bottom line principles; environment, economy society, measure 59 elements. output, index (CESI), single value supported by aggregation Human Development Index, Global Warming Potential, National Economic Importance indicators, derived through rigorous systematic selection process. Recycling rate employed as control variable given its importance strategy. results show that greater Rate, lower more sustainable is, vice-versa. CESI was validated using three representative piezoelectric materials case study. useful designers, policy makers educational bodies, support making towards production consumption.

A Sustainability Index for Karst Environments

With growing populations and ever increasing pressure on resources, the need to live sustainably with our environment has increased in significance. When considering such anthropogenic pressures, karst landscapes are as vulnerable, if not more so, than any other environment. Such vulnerability arises from the rapid transit times of percolating water, the poor filtering ability of carbonate bedr...

Productivity and sustainability index evaluation for Harsin dam

Abstract Water availability significantly affects development of agriculture, industry and urban services. Thus, the water industry is among the fundamental industries. Yet, most countries, especially developing countries, are suffering from water deficit, water pollution and flood hazards.  These problems are more severe in Iran due to improper management of water resources. Integrated water ...

Toxic Chemical Release Hazard Distance Determination Using Chemical Exposure Index (CEI) in a Gas Refinery

Events leading up to the release of toxic chemicals in the processing plants are one of the main hazards of chemical industries that can endanger employees and also people in neighborhood. In this study, DOW's Chemical Exposure Index (CEI) is used to determine hazard distances of possible toxic chemical releases in one of the South Pars gas refineries. To...

Ford of Europe’s Product Sustainability Index

Ford of Europe’s Product Sustainability Index (PSI) is a sustainability management tool directly used by engineering, i.e. not by sustainability or life cycle experts. PSI is looking at eight indicators reflecting environmental (Life Cycle Global Warming Potential, Life Cycle Air Quality Potential, Sustainable Materials, Restricted Substances, Drive-by-Exterior-Noise), social (Mobility Capabili...

A volume change index for forest growth and sustainability

A volume change index is suggested that is derived from growth components that can be estimated from remeasured plots. The new index incorporates more information than the traditional growth over removals ratio. The new index directly indicates whether the standing volume will be increasing or decreasing if current conditions persist, whereas the ratio of growth over removals obscures the impac...
